Mr Tappoo said the initial packages were to help the immediate basic needs of the affected communities.

The Tappoo relief supplies contributed to the Commissioner Western’s office included bottled water and beverage packages.

Mr Tappoo commended the Government, civil society groups, the corporate sector, and the international communities for the sterling effort in co-ordinating and distributing the much-needed help.

“All Fiji citizens who have reached out in whatever way, small or large, to help our men, women and children affected must be commended for their show of true patriotism,” Mr Tappoo said.

“It is heart-wrenching to learn that we have lost 42 lives already, and even more devastating to hear reports that the toll could rise.”
