Kia Takes Top Spot In 2016 JD Power Initial Quality Study
JD Power has recognised Kia brand as the highest scoring nameplate in its 2016 Initial Quality Study out of all 33 makes in the US the past week.
Marking the first time in 27 years that a non-premium brand has topped the rankings, Kia’s rise to the top was driven by segment-leading performances from the Sportage and Soul.
This is while Sorento, Rio and Cerato, all ranked in the top three of their respective categories.
The Korean automaker supplanted Porsche at the top of the list.
Kia Motors America chief operating officer and EVP, Michael Sprague, said: “Ranked highest in the entire industry for initial quality is the result of Kia’s decade-long focus on craftsmanship and continuous improvement.
“It reflects the voice of our customers, which is the ultimate affirmation. As the highest ranked brand in the industry, there is no doubt Kia is a world-class automaker.”
As Kia’s US sales have consistently grown over the last four years to surpass the 600,000 annual unit mark, so too has the brand’s performance in JD Power’s Initial Quality Study.
After entering the overall top 10 for the first time in 2013, Kia placed second in the industry and led all non-premium makes in IQS in 2015.
Now in its 30th year, the annual JD Power IQS analyses responses from vehicle owners in 26 segments.
IQS is determined by vehicle owners evaluating the driving experience, engine and transmission performance, and a broad range of quality-related problems within the first 90 days of ownership.
In Fiji, Kia sales is also ranked amongst the top 3 brands in the new passenger vehicle segment and is exclusively distributed by Kia Motors Fiji, a Tappoo Group Company.
Tappoo Group chief executive and executive director, Madhu Tappoo, said they were extremely delighted and overwhelmed.
This was with Kia’s endless achievements and accolades in the Auto industry over the recent years, and being ranked highest against the odds is just phenomenal.
“We are honoured to represent Kia and its design lead and multi award winning vehicles in Fiji,” he said.
“Kia has been known as one of the ‘world’s fastest growing automotive brands’ and now being recognised as the best amongst the 33 automotive makes in the USA speaks a lot about the brand. Surely Kia has the powers to surprise.”
Kia’s hi-tech, design lead, award winning vehicles are available in Fiji from Kia Motors Fiji Showrooms located at the corner of Grantham Road and Carpenter Street, Garden City, Raiwai Suva, and on the Main Street in Nadi town.
