SPEECH BY MR. MADHU TAPPOO, CEO & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, TAPPOO GROUP OF COMPANIES

THURSDAY, 12TH MARCH, 2009, 2PM, WAICOBA DISTRICT SCHOOL, SIGATOKA

Members of the Fijian Affairs Board, Representatives from Waicoba, Rukuruku and Buruwa District School, Mr Manoa Dugulele, Ladies & Gentlemen.

Good Afternoon!

I am indeed honored to be here today representing the Tappoo Group.

Like TFL, Tappoo is committed to the people of Fiji and this is reflected in the sponsorship and community projects that we take up individually as well as under the Tappoo Foundation.

We are a Sigatoka company and proud of it.

Our family co was founded by my father in 1941 in Sigatoka.

What is a little known fact is that in 1932, my father, as a child, actually lived in Kavanagasau in the interiors of the Sigatoka Valley, and later worked in Cuvu, before moving to Sigatoka town.

All his children, all of us brothers & sisters, including all the directors of the company, were born & grew up & did our schooling in Sigatoka.

My father who is now 92 years of age and curently lives in retirement in Korotogo, has lived his entire life in this district.

Sigatoka is our home.

Sigatoka is where our head office is.

Sigatoka is where our roots are.

And although we have businesses & investments in other centres in Fiji, and although we have grown to a size where we currently employ 1000 skilled people on our group of companies, we have a sentimental attachment to the Nadroga district & hence I can categorically say we will never move our headoffice away from Sigatoka ever, and thats a promise to the people of Nadroga.

We are proud to be one the largest sponsors for Fiji Rugby.

Through our Tappoo Charity foundation, we have given back to the needy in our community through various social, spiritual, educational & charitable projects throughout Fiji.

But what gives us special joy is to offer help in our own district Nadroga.

Recently we funded a $10,000 Safe Drinking Water project at the Sigatoka Methodist School.

And we are equally delighted to be helping the Waicoba District School in partnership with TFL.

And we sincerely thank TFL for giving us this opportunity for being partners with them in this worthy project.
